The Inertia of Life...

Dearest Remington:

So many things have happened since you turned one, and I am abashed that I haven't updated your blog in such a long time..but aim to get many of your pictures and my thoughts posted within the next week...the inertia of life sometimes keeps me from writing all of my thoughts to you...

After I had my stent placed (February 15, 2011), I started doing lots of research so that I can possibly prevent this procedure in the future. I really like being your Mom, and I am hoping to hold the job for a long, long time. Anyway, since we have such a HUGE family history of heart disease, with three confirmed genetic markers, I feel the best way to prevent further coronary artery disease is with diet and exercise. Therefore, I have embarked on a journey whereby I embrace a total plant-based diet. It is a little stricter than most total vegetarian diets in that one cannot use butter, margarine, or oils of any kind. No dairy, no meat or fish...in the past when I opted to try a vegetarian life-style it made me fat because I ate too much dairy and too many carbs, so I am trying to do this as low fat and low carb as possible. Transitioning to this lifestyle has been fun and I like creating food combinations with the fruits and vegetables that I eat that make me feel sated.

Additionally, I have been exercising a lot...

We have been reading quite a bit. Your favorite book is "Bubbles, Bubbles" -- a Sesame Street Beginnings book about bath time.

We also get out and explore. You really love the horse ranch and the alpaca ranch nearby. We wander the neighborhood and you like to practice running and walking anywhere!!! So far, you prefer to keep your shoes on as you don't like the feel of grass on your feet. One thing I love about you is that you like to try new things and obtain new experiences -- that is definitely one thing we have in common and we always have a great time making memories and having adventures.

Another thing we do that has kept us occupied for the last three months is playing "tag your it." I poke you and run to one end of the house and you follow. We have yet to try this in the yard. We often take the jogging stroller out when the weather permits. You enjoy the gyrating motion and to look at the beautiful landscapes in our neighborhood, the fields, the mountains...

You also insist on going bye-bye at least twice a day in the car...you seem to love the alternate, perpetual motion of the car. You have learned to turn your face against the sun since you refuse to wear a hat or sun glasses.

We traveled to Idaho to see your Sister's and Niece's and so Mommie could attend Collette's baby shower on the 20th of May. It was a lot of fun. Despite the 5 hour road-trip, you were really good. You got a bit fussy for one dinner and one breakfast, but I think it was mostly because we were so off your regular routines.

During your life, I hope you have a close relationship with Collette and Jackie -- and heed any advice they give you as you mature. They both have it together. There is much goodness and gladness in their hearts, and I love that they are knowledgeable, passionate, courageous, loyal, kind, compassionate, and fun. I know you will enjoy them as much as I do.

One sad moment in our journey these last few months occurred on May 31st. Your Great Grandma Glick, or Triple G as we sometimes called her, passed away. You and I had trekked into Salt Lake on the day she chose pass. You got to talk to her in your special way -- a language you and she only understood. I got to let her know how much you and I loved her. I shared memories with you as she listened. I am so glad you and I had the honor and privilege of being with her during her last moments...

I totally have appreciated each day with you my darling Son Shine...each day with you is filled with adventure, and is truly a gift. I am so honored you chose me as your Mom. I love you with my whole heart and always, always will...
