Sadness...June 6, 2011...

Remington, On May 31, 2011 a wonderful person in our lives passed away and went to heaven. It was your Triple G (Great Grandma Glick). On June 6th, 2011, you, Dad, and I attended her memorial service to pay our respects. She was definitely a passionate, interesting individual. She loved you dearly and thought you would grow up to do amazing things within this world. Triple G had the gift of insight and indicated you would be a very kind person...

She took the time before her death, despite her worsening Parkinson's disease, to write out a family history for you.

Oh, how I wish you could know her in your teenage and young adult years. She gave me a sense of professionalism...when I was about 16 and concerned about the entire interview process she gave me terrific advice, she suggested that I use the verbiage "thank you for your time," and write out thank you notes to those I interviewed with -- techniques I continue to use that have provided opportunities I believe I would not otherwise have. She re-enforced a love of reading that I acquired from Grandma Halverson (my Mom) reading to me...she liked to quilt and cook and was really great at both, although self-taught. I hope through knowing your cousins and the rest of Triple G's clan, you will get to know what an icon she was in our family.

May you always have someone to talk to that inspires and gives advice that helps propel you towards your goals and living your "best life."

Jello Jigging....Age 14 Months...

Son-shine: Mommie is always trying to come up with fun and interesting activities. We had a ton of jello left over that Daddy couldn't eat so I thought it would be fun to let you play and touch the jello...just so you could experience "cold" and a different texture. At first you didn't quite like being barefoot in the jello (which was warmed at room temperature) and you didn't like the squishing under your feet and in between your toes, but after about 5 minutes your spirit of adventure kicked in and you had a blast jigging in the jello (I am calling it that because for whatever reason it reminded me of "jive talking" only with your feet).

Cucumber Caper...

Reme: The Cucumber Caper was H-I-L-A-R-I-O-U-S!!! I was preparing dinner for all of us and trying to get cucumbers grated, peeled, and sliced when you reached up and grabbed a just washed cucumber to see what it was all about. You walked a bit with it, bit into it while walking, then decided to sit down and take a bigger bite out of the cucumber. Afterwards, you brought it back to Mom to peel, etc. From this day on you really, really, really like cucumber....

Cooking Class....Another Adventure @ 14 Months...

Remington: You are a delight! You love to help Mommie cook. These pictures were taken May 29, 2011. We were making muffins for Daddy. Besides helping stir and sample the fare, you always help Mom "organize" her kitchen. You take all of the pans out of the cupboard and put them back in a bit differently than Mommie had them..OR, you take things out of the pantry and put them in other areas of the kitchen. Sometimes this is hard for Mommie as I like to run a tight ship, however, I let you explore and change your environment because I think it is important for you to learn, grow, build confidence, and self-esteem. Overall, I am glad you do this as I have learned much from your play, re-organization, and activity. I hope you will alwas be this innovative!!!

Reme: Your Sister's got you the neatest bike for your first birthday -- it not only rolls as a bike should, but it plays music, the alphabet, teaches you about numbers, and so much more.... You finally were able to reach the floor to push it on your own June 16, 2011. You LOVE this bike!!!! I hope you always have fun things to do and explore, a multitude of hobbies and interests, and the means to keep you building upon them. Also, may your imagination take you far....keep you passionate, spirited, adventurous, and forward thinking...

At the Playground, Age 14 Months...

Son-shine: As these pictures depict, you are an adventurer! A very active kid who likes to figure things out on his own You would step up, step over, and figure out every which way your shadow was going. I was pretty impressed that, at 14 months, you even NOTICED your shadow. My favorite photo within this assortment is: "Stepin' Up" (when you step from the bark onto the pavement). I hope that as you progress through your life, when you come upon an obstacle, you tackle it the same way you did stepping from the two different surfaces you encountered on this day. I am proud of you for trying!

Dear Remington, These three photos make me smile. I think they depict your cute and fun-loving personality. You are truly a person who strives for independence and tries to learn things on your own. For instance, you were determined to blow your own nose this month and so you learned how to huff and puff to get your nasal passages clear.

I love that you are not afraid to test limits and push yourself. I love that you are willing to try new things...both are very amazing qualities to nourish and continue.
