Remington's Nick-names...

*Reme -- derived from your name, shortened.

*Duckie
-- because in one of the first ultrasound pictures we had of you in utero, you resembeled a little duck with plumage atop the head. Your face was turned towards what looked like a duck's preening feathers at tail's end.

*Son-shine -- because Daddy sings a special song for you, all about you being his Son.

*Little Him -- this moniker came about because someone was talking to you about your Dad. They said: "we know you love Him (meaning Daddy)." After that, I started calling you "Little Him."

*Squeaker -- from Aunt Joyce because you squeaked at her every time she picked you up.

*Little Man -- from Daddy whenever he sings to you or says loving things to you.

*Cuddle Bug
-- because you snuggle with Mommie whenever she burps you or whenever you are sleeping in her arms.

*Mommie's Tigger -- because as you are learning to walk and crawl you either get on your hands and knees and rock back and forth in a bouncing motion OR stand up and bounce, bounce, bounce. Also, you enjoy being bounced on the bed, or in your Exer-saucer. Sometimes you will stand on the couch, holding on to the back of the couch, me or Daddy and bounce away!

*Speed Racer -- because as you are crawling you move lightening fast!!!!!

*Mister -- Daddy started calling you "Mister" after you turned one year of age because you are maturing so fast. It is a nick-name that came about quite by accident...Daddy was trying to spit out Little Man, but somehow the words Mister Man came out and then got shortened to 'Mister.'

*Lil' Tornado -- because you are a whirlwind! You are interested in EVERYTHING and get into EVERYTHING...and as my adventurer...I think it is wonderful!

*Haaaaamm Sanwich -- because you have an amazing sense of humor!!! This nick-name started when you were 18 months old. You have the funnest personality!

A Smile and A Wink, (May 7, 2010)..

Dear "Little Him:" I am dying a little today. You are 7 weeks and 1 day old, and your newborn clothes just about don't fit. The little overalls you are wearing had to be snapped on the first snap and they just barely cover your legs when you are standing. Of course, they are floods when you are sitting down. The cowboy boot booties that I've been trying to get you to wear practically since you were born FINALLY fit, and are almost too small. But, my "dying a little" drama isn't really about you growing so much that you are outgrowing your clothes, but rather about today being a Daddy/Son day...Daddy decided to take you on a little excursion to meet all of those colleagues of his that have been asking to see you. In additon, you will visit Grandma Koehler and go shopping. At the time of this writing, you've been gone for a little over 2 hours and I miss you like crazy! I am tempted to call Daddy every 5 minutes, but I am refraining because I want you both to enjoy your adventure and make beautiful memories (I must confess, I have called once already to see how you are doing...Daddy says you are terrriffic!) Before you left with Dad, you seemed to wink and smile at Mommie as if to say: "I'll have fun!" I love you "Little Him." You are the most precious gift I've ever been given -- because of you I believe in miracles....

Love Forever and x Infinity,

Mommie.

Chubbin' Up...

Pictures Bottom to Top:Reme Sittin' Up,"My Cute Lil' Piglet."~~~Reme, Daddy piled his favorite blanket around you (to keep you safe) and then sat you up for the first picture. You sat for quite a while, and he and I were very impressed. I really would have liked to have known what you were thinking...you seem to like to sit up and take in your surroundings, which I find remarkable at your age!

The second picture in the series is one of my favorites, entitled "My Cute Lil' Piglet" because you are FINALLY getting some of the baby chubbiness that grown-ups love. You are eating well and often. Your weight progression has been a little slow because Mommie hasn't produced much breast-milk, but that has definitely changed over the past few weeks, and I am so glad it is showing. You are getting the most darling Buddha belly and your cheeks are fuller....you are darling!

Mommie.

Adorable Sleepy Pie...(May 5, 2010 -- PM)

Dear Remington: When you were in utero, you ALWAYS had a hand placed on your little cheek. You still have this habit, and I think it is too cute for words! I love to look at your face when you are dreaming with your hand placed just so. You are adorable and very, very special.

Love Forever and x Infinity,

Mommie.

P.S. Daddy says this is a favorite photo because to him you look like "an angel."

XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO (from Daddy).

You -- A Delight! (Wednesday, May 5, 2010)...

Dear Duckie: You are growing sooo fast! During your play time today, while you were on your tummy, you couldn't stop gazing at your Exersaucer -- so I decided that although you aren't quite sitting up by yourself, that we'd see what would happen when you were placed in it. YOU LOVE YOUR EXERSAUCER!!! You were cooing and gurgling and just plain talkin' up a storm at the toys on it. In the photo I took, I captured you saying: "oooohhhh." In so many ways my heart strings were torn today...because you are maturing faster than I expected/wanted. However, I am delighted to see you happy, content, playing and developing. Although in the back of my mind I know you will mature, grow-up, age, it hit me HARD today that you won't be my baby forever. Right now I am so fortunate to be able to enjoy you. Every sound you vocalize, every gaze you display, every expression you make is an utter delight. I love you so very, very much!

People Can Be Cruel...

Dear Remington: Today's entry is more about a "Mommie" adventure than a "Reme" adventure. There are days that I feel that I am doing a great job as your Mom; and then there are others that I feel very inadequate and inept. Each day I learn something new and/or a better way to care for you -- to meet all of your needs, help you with your development, and communicate. So, with encouragement from your Grandma, I went on my very first errand by myself. I went to a local store here in Tooele and planned for a very short outing. I had fed you, changed you, and made sure you were dry before going into the store. You were calm and quiet until I hoisted your car seat onto the shopping cart, and then you started screaming at the top of your lungs. This behavior is a little new for Mommie and scares me when it happens, you are hard to soothe. However, last time this happened (when I was home with Daddy) all it took to calm you down was walking from room to room in the house. It took about 10 minutes until you stopped crying. Today, I thought that you would calm down because we would be moving. After about 7 minutes of you crying non-stop (and at the top of your lungs) while I was worrying about you, a woman whom I've never met came up to me and said: "Stop ignoring and neglecting your baby; can't you hear it crying?!" I replied: "Ma'am, I am not ignoring my baby. Is his crying bothering you? Would you like me to leave?" She harrumphed, turned and stomped off. I walked you a little more. I felt awful, and I felt guilty, and I felt like a horrible Mom because of her words. I decided I'd walk around outside and see if that would help...it did. The moment I took you off the cart and just carried you in the infant carrier you stopped crying...I guess you didn't like the angle you were at on the shopping cart and preferred the motion and swaying of me holding the carrier. The reason I am writing about this experience is because I learned something important. People aren't always nice, empathetic, and can be judgmental without even knowing another Human being's situation, but there is a choice. Although this woman's words affected me greatly in a negative way, I held it together for your sake. I chose to continue with our experience and finish the outing and errand (the melt-down came later). I also learned that attitude is everything -- it truly can determine altitude. While I was "holding it together" I was positive things would be okay and it was. While I want to always protect you from the mean-spirited, hateful people of the world, I know I won't be able to in every circumstance. I hope for you that you will choose the right attitude to have the most positive experience, even amidst a not so positive moment. I also hope for you that you will surround yourself with family, friends, and mentors who will build you up instead of bring negativity to you. Luckily for me, when the melt-down came I had your Daddy, Aunt Joyce, and Pediatrician to act as my support system and assure me I did nothing wrong. In fact, the Pediatrician felt that either the woman who accused me of ignoring you and neglecting you has never had Children of her own, or that all of her children were very calm and not very fussy. It is probably the former which is true...so I am taking the lessons and the moment in stride.

I love you with my whole heart, mind, and strength. You mean the world and more to me, Remington. I hope you will always know that.

Love Forever and x Infinity,

Mommie.

Play Time...

Picture: Remington and a Favorite Toy.~~~Son, I don't always capture the gazillions of expressions you display and I'd hoped to get this one a bit better. When you are thinking, you furrow your brow just like Mommie does! To see a bit of me in you when you look like your Dad -- well, it takes my breath away. Today, you weren't sure about this toy. The bells chime in different keys, and then there is a section you pull that when played plays "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star." The sun itself reminds me of a lion and the "rays" or "mane" crinkle when you touch them (it sounds like crumpling paper). Today you smiled at Mommie when I smiled at you. You did this in the Hospital and periodically until week 4. I take such delight in your smile so much because it warms my heart I am glad to see the smile back!

Love Forever and x Infinity,

Mommie.

Bedtime, Precious Moments...

Pictures Bottom to Top: Duckie, My Big Boy!, Mr. Independent!, Remingtion Asleep with his Giraffe Blankie, Precious Moments.~~~Dear Duckie: This week you have been expressing your independence. It has been a little hard for Mommie, who wants you to stay her baby forever, but as all journey's must, forward steps have to be made. Since you've been determined to be more independent, Daddy and I thought it might be a good idea for you to sleep in your own bedroom. You seem to love your room every time we do a walk-about through the house, so despite how hard it is for me to loose sleep time with you, my "cuddle bug," we gave it a go. Mommie is a believer of co-sleeping, which we've been doing up until two days ago (you slept in your own bed for a full night on April 29th, 2010). You were amazing, and slept by yourself like you'd been doing it forever! You only fussed one time, but went right back to sleep. My heart was wrenched a bit...but I know that developmentally, it is a good thing. Silly Mommie slept right by the crib in a sleeping bag because you were more ready for this step than me. What I learned from this night is that no matter how hard it is for me to let me be who you need to be, it really is the right thing to do.

Love Forever and x Infinity,

Mommie.
